EMERGENCY WATER EXTRACTION

1. Stop the water flow if possible. If the water is coming from an inside source, such as a toilet or sink, find the shut-off valve and turn it off immediately. Take care to attend to obvious safety hazards, like electrical shock and personal injury from slips and falls.

3. Make a photographic record of the damage for your insurance company.
4. Towel dry any wood furniture or counter tops to remove as much water as possible.
5. Remove all loose items and personal posessions, like rugs, pillows, lamps, etc. to a dry safe place to prevent further damage.
6. Use wax paper, triple folded aluminum foil, wood blocks or Styrofoam under furniture legs that cannot be relocated to a dry area.
7. Hang draperies up and pin upholstery skirts to prevent water damage.
8. Increase airflow by opening windows, turning on fans, and turn on your heating and/or air conditioning system, provided water has not entered the ducts.
9. Open doors, drawers, cupboards and closets to maintain optimal air circulation and promote drying.
10. Wash wet clothes, sheets and linens immediately and hang up dry clean fabrics and leather items to dry at room temperature.

*Do not store damp items in plastic bags this can cause mold and mildew to grow.
